February

Hello,

Finally, warm weather!  The children have felt like little groundhogs all snug in their dens these last few weeks. Outdoor time is so important for little ones it allows for them to run, experience nature, be loud (let’s admit it it’s what they’re good at), and get down in the dirt.

February had a lot of days that we stopped and thought about: Groundhogs Day, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents Day.  We really focused on love and what does love mean?  When you ask kids this question you will get a variety of answers, but here at Immanuel Lutheran Preschool we want our preschoolers to know first and foremost that the one who will always love them and love them with an agape love is JESUS!  No better time to learn about how much JESUS loves us than in February the month of love.  Our Bible lessons taught us about Jesus’ love and how we should show love to others: Jesus Stops a Storm, Jesus Feeds 5000 People, and The Good Samaritan.

“…God will meet all your needs…” (Philippians 4:19)

“Cast your cares on the Lord…” (Psalms 55:22)

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31)

Working with children is a blessing and always brings a smile to my face.  I enjoy asking them questions and hearing their perspective.  L*** was playing at the play dough station making chocolates for the valentine box when I approached him and ask him a question:

Mrs. Amie: “L***, what does Valentine’s Day mean to you?”

January

Greetings from Immanuel Lutheran Preschool,

We started our 5-day program immediately following Christmas break, it has been wonderful.  The extra days have given us more time to focus on Jesus, cooperating with one another, and having fun while learning!

When you hear a preschool child say something you’ve been trying to get them to remember it’s a moment of, “WOW, they do get it, preschool is making a difference in their lives.”  During circle time we recite our memory verse that has been assigned for the week.  Well, one day I asked the children a question, “Why do we memorize verses from the Bible?”  One of my preschoolers was quick to reply, “We hide it in our hearts!”  Can I just say I was astonished and so pleased.

Children are always listening and soaking up the world around them, we as a church community need to make sure we are pouring into the children of the church, preschool, and our community whenever we can.

And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”  — Matthew 18:1-5
